One of Corsa Corsa’s good friends, S, is currently on a solo cycling journey across Europe.
His ambitious adventure will take him all the way from England to Istanbul by bicycle.
S has kindly shared his thoughts, photographs, and daily experiences from the road, and we would like to share them with you.

Corsa Corsaの良き友人であるS氏が、現在ヨーロッパを自転車で旅しています。
今回の旅は、イギリスからイスタンブールまでを自転車で走る壮大な挑戦です。
旅の序文とともに、道中で撮影した写真や日々の出来事について、S氏から丁寧なレポートが届きました。

Preamble
Approaching the age of 37, I realized I needed more exercise. Through the kind introduction of a friend, N-san, I discovered cycling and soon became fascinated by both vintage bicycles and the culture surrounding them. Through Corsa Corsa and Eroica, my passion for cycling only grew stronger.
Several years later, I decided to take a sabbatical from work and cycle from England to Istanbul. Through this journey, I hope to share the places, people, and experiences I encounter along the way.

序文
37歳を目前にした頃、私は運動不足を痛感し、自転車の世界に足を踏み入れました。友人のNさんの紹介をきっかけにサイクリングを始め、やがてヴィンテージ自転車やエロイカの魅力に夢中になりました。
それから数年後、私は仕事を休職し、自転車でイギリスからイスタンブールまで旅をすることを決意しました。この旅では、道中で出会う風景や人々、そしてさまざまな体験を記録していきたいと思います。

Leaving Marlow
My journey began in Marlow, a charming town on the River Thames where my parents live. Standing at the start of a journey that would eventually take me to Istanbul, I felt both excitement and uncertainty.
マーローを出発
旅は、両親が暮らすテムズ川沿いの町マーローから始まりました。最終目的地であるイスタンブールを思うと、不安と期待が入り混じった気持ちでした。
Windsor Castle Emerging from the Mist
The weather was typically English, with rain clouds drifting overhead. As I approached Windsor, the famous castle slowly appeared through the mist, reminding me of the long history of the British monarchy.
霧の中に現れたウィンザー城
空には雨雲が広がり、まさにイギリスらしい天気でした。ウィンザーに近づくと、霧の向こうから名高いウィンザー城が姿を現し、英国王室の長い歴史を感じさせてくれました。
Runnymede – Birthplace of the Magna Carta
One of the highlights of the day was passing through Runnymede, where King John sealed the Magna Carta in 1215. It is a modest place today, but one that played a remarkable role in the development of constitutional government.
ラニーミード ― マグナ・カルタの地
この日の見どころの一つがラニーミードでした。1215年にジョン王がマグナ・カルタへ署名した場所です。現在は静かな場所ですが、立憲政治の発展に大きな影響を与えた歴史的な地です。
A Typical Thames Riverside Scene
As I continued eastward, I passed many peaceful riverside communities. Boats, old houses and the gentle flow of the Thames created scenes that felt uniquely English.
テムズ川らしい風景
さらに東へ進むと、テムズ川沿いならではの穏やかな風景が続きました。ボートや古い建物、ゆったり流れる川が、いかにもイギリスらしい雰囲気を作り出していました。
Modern London Appears
Gradually the scenery changed. Historic riverside towns gave way to modern developments, and London’s growing skyline came into view. It was fascinating to see centuries of history existing alongside modern architecture.
近代的なロンドンの風景
やがて景色は大きく変わりました。歴史ある川沿いの町並みは近代的な開発地区へと変わり、高層ビル群が姿を現しました。何世紀もの歴史と現代建築が共存するロンドンらしい光景です。
Arrival in Greenwich
By late afternoon I reached Greenwich. Famous for the Prime Meridian and Britain’s maritime history, it felt like the perfect place to end my first day on the road.
グリニッジ到着
午後遅く、グリニッジへ到着しました。本初子午線と英国海洋史で知られるこの場所は、旅の初日を締めくくるのにふさわしい場所でした。
A Well-Earned Pint
After a long day in the saddle, I treated myself to a pint in Greenwich. Sitting with a beer and reflecting on the first day of the journey, Istanbul still felt impossibly far away.
ご褒美の一杯
長い一日の終わりに、グリニッジでビールを一杯。旅の初日を振り返りながらグラスを傾けていると、イスタンブールはまだ遥か彼方に感じられました。
Carrying all my belongings with me quickly made me realize the virtue of “less is more”.
持ち物をすべて自転車に積んで走ることで、「少ないほど豊かである」という旅の本質を、出発初日にして早くも実感することになりました。
