Sierra Nevada completed safely. Yesterday, I happened to pass through Baeza, the starting point of the Vuelta, so I delayed heading to Granada to watch the race. I ate sardines and Iberico ham at a café along the way. As expected, English isn't understood at all in the south, so I conversed using broken Spanish I had just learned and hand gestures.
"Where did you come from?"
"Madrid."
"From Madrid by bicycle? What for?"
"Vacation."
"Normally on vacation, you go to the beach, enjoy a relaxed swim, sip cold cocktails, and unwind. Why are you out here in this crazy heat, getting dark brown and huffing and puffing on a bike?"
"Well, that's what my vacation is."
"Japanese people are crazy," he said, shaking his head.
Yet, filling my bottle with extra ice is just how Spanish people are.
Just a little bit more to Granada.
