Simon, a true Raleigh enthusiast, is about to embark on his round-the-world cycling adventure!
Just last week, he trained in Hokkaido—only to be met with heavy rain and a series of flat tires.
Today, before he sets off, Eguchi-san gave him a hands-on session on flat repair, fixing a broken chain, and tips for riding in Europe.
Right on cue, Harada-san—who joined Eroica Japan this April—rolled in on his green FUJI and joined the fun.
“When fixing a flat, don’t rush. Always wipe down the tire—if a twig or debris is left inside, you’ll get another flat right away.”
Everyone: “Ah, that makes sense!”
Simon: “Eguchi-san, you should start a YouTube channel!”
Eguchi: “I’d love to, but there’s just no time!”
From chain wear and “stiff links” to Japan’s stop-and-go traffic (three times more than in Europe), avoiding dangerous routes, carrying salt tablets (hard to find overseas!), and making sure to rest well—
It was an afternoon packed with wisdom for a safe and enjoyable journey.
